i agree with this thread. video games are lousy ways for people to make money off stupid obsessions. Same as the ciggarette and alcohol industry. Signs youre addicted: 1. You come home from school or work and without doing homework or acutal work, you play video games. 2. You decide to stay home to play video games instead of going out and doing something. 3. You use acutal money to buy money in a VIDEO GAME. Instead of wasting money on imaginary cash, give it to the starving children around the world. Feed someone else and feel good about saving someones life, instead of worrying about the FoW Armor you cant get so you must use acutal money to get. Do something better as in study more, practice a sport more, or just do something good for the community. It will make you feel a lot better knowing that you arent ruining your vision infront of a comp or tv and becoming lazy. Enjoy your time with friends, or girlfriends.

One of the key features of an addiction to me at least, is negative side effects, both physical and mental. If you can find me serious negative side effects from playing video games...well you can try, but as a whole there really aren't any. Don't get out near as much? Who cares, I prefer it here. Aren't insanely buff? So what? You can HARDLY call video games an addiction. I don't think a single member that's posted in this thread, or maybe even on these forums is seriously "addicted" to video games, or GuildWars, to the point that it's harmful to themselves or anyone else. To say that those of us who won't delete our characters, or come home every day to play the game are addicted is entirely false, this thread as a whole mislabels people's hobbies and enjoyments as addictions, which shouldn't be. Do NOT confuse "It doesn't allow you to do other things" with negative side effects, every single time you do something you remove other possible activities from that time slot. Just because YOU don't think people benefit from it, and because YOU would rather be out doing something else, because your personal opinions are that it's better to do other things, does not by ANY means, mean that we're addicted to video games. I've only seen a couple people truly addicted to video games (or heard of them), and one was some guy who ended up dead because of it, go figure.
We're not addicted just because you think we should be doing other things, we're not dieing because we're playing video games, and if we're happy we're not wasting our lives, despite what you as a person might think.
(In this post, I say "you" quite a lot, this is not necessarily directed to the OP or meant to be an attack or personal comment to anyone, just a general "whoever's reading this post that might think this..." sort of, "you".)

For lent I think I will give up guildwars. I was originally going to give up video games as a whole, but guildwars is the only game I play pretty much.

hehe i have an addiction to the song kazenone from final fantasy cristal cronicles right now, and last week it was dry trail from tales of symphonia...
however, though i understand the point that the op is trying to make, i would have to ask the question, did the *light* you found come from meating that special somone, and they dont do games, or from getting your religeon of choice?
most people i know of change their oppinion overnight because they ether got a girlfiend or boyfriend, or got religeon.....from personal experiance of them changng, too.
i could say that, by comming into the forums and posting, tha you are addicted to the internet, and we should all dissconect your PCs and go do somethng else..wait, we are addicted to computers, turn off the power and trash them in the bin...wait, power....dissconet the power from your homes and go back to good old candles and oil lamps....
welcome to Amishvill..population..you...
well, thats all well and good. the world as a whole needs to take a step back and re-evaluate what they consider bad.
if its not low fat, low carb, low sugar.....=bad.
so lets all eat steamed brown rice and fresh filtered water for the rest of your life.
if its not exersies, bloodpressure tests, make sure your not too fat, nor to thin, to tall, to short, to pale, to tanned...you get the picture...
in fact, why dont we all demand our onw personal cleanroom pod to retire to and hide out in...
and i would have to say that society today is addicted to many thiings...
monogamy in the usa...
under-age sex in the uk...
henti in japan...
under-achiveing in many schools across the world...
each and every one of us has minor and majour addictions of anytihgn from tv programs to jogging to going to church...
can you ask gran to stop going to church once a week, because you claim she is addicted to it? not real, you would be labeld as anti religeous for whatever religeon she chooses.
its all personal people, its the eye of the beholder....
